ADHD Sleep Disorder: Understanding Children and Adult Who Can’t Sleep

 

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common behavioral conditions among children today. According to studies, about 80% of those children and adults who are suffering from this type of behavioral disorder have difficulty sleeping.

 

The same study shows that ADHD sleep disorders rank among the top ten cause why some people cannot sleep at night. Some people with ADHD sleep disorders stay awake in bed for around two to three hours before they finally get some sleep. In most cases, the stress of not being able to sleep right away trigger other forms of psychological and physiological imbalance in the person that he or she becomes prone to depression and other forms of mental problems.

 

Although scientists and researchers are still conducting further studies into the causes of ADHD sleep disorder and there are still no concrete scientific explanations as to what causes this type of behavioral disorder, some experts believe that ADHD sleep disorder may be attributed to the diet and the heredity of the person. According to some experts, food that contains preservatives and synthetic additives may cause some side effects in our bodies such as hyperactivity especially in children and some young adults.

 

Dealing With ADHD Sleep Disorder

 

If your child is having difficulty focusing on his or her task and he or she is having so much trouble getting some sleep, it would be better for you to consult your doctor. Do not just assume that your child has ADHD sleep disorder if you can’t sleep. According to studies, ADHD is not the only cause for lack of sleep, so do not jump into conclusions right away and request for some tests.

 

Always remember that insomnia is a complex thing and may be caused by a combination of factors. The only way to determine the factors that caused insomnia in your child is to consult a doctor who is specializing in sleep disorders.

 

If the results of the tests performed by the doctor say that you child is indeed suffering from ADHD sleep disorder, discuss the different forms of treatments with your doctor first to make sure that your child is getting the best from of treatment. Some doctors may recommend some drugs to help your child but his would be a last resort. Seek natural alternative. Visit a naturopath first.  Change your child's diet to more raw fruits and veggies and no junk or fast food. 

 

If your doctor recommends the use of drugs to help your child, discuss with the doctor the possible side effects that these drugs have on your child. You need to make sure that these drugs will not cause more harm than good on the health of your child.

 

Ask your doctor how you can help your child relax and focus on his or her tasks. Note that as a parent, you are in the best position to help your child go through this situation and find solutions to the problem. ADHD sleep disorder can be remedied naturally.
